Teatro Scolastico

The area in the city of Boston along Huntington Avenue anchored at one end by Massachusetts Avenue and at the other end by the Longwood Medical Area, is home to a large number of arts and educational institutions including, but not limited to, the Berklee School of Music, the New England Conservatory, Boston Symphony Hall, Wentworth Institute of Technology, Northeastern University, the Museum of Fine Arts, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, and Massachusetts College of Art and Design.  As such, this stretch has been dubbed “the Avenue of the Arts”.

This proposed student center will serve as a gathering place for art students from all institutions in the area and will contain galleries, workshops, meeting rooms, practice rooms, performance spaces, a convenience store, a restaurant, and a meditation space.  The building is conceived of as a series of frames fronting Huntington Avenue, in which the students within also become works of art for the surrounding city.  The main atrium space has an interface with meeting rooms, study areas, and a large vertical grid of music practice spaces, further emphasizing performance while dissolving the division between artist and audience.
